The Prince of Wales Country Club was a challenge to live up to the times for which they proposed to offer new services related to leisure and sport and re-enchanting and its partners to promote the informal, and increase the general use during the week.

There were well-established and outdoor facilities so the strategy was to define a platform-level sports resolved underground, and gardens of the north flank of the Club House. In a contemporary language that will not create conflict with the existing architecture of such eclectic turn, the fact of being underground maintains the existing situation of looking at the sports fields from the same building, which represents a value for the architectural design status of the original building site.

Project Challenge
The starting point for the renovation was a modest Victorian house in very poor condition, with rooms with small windows and dark interior spaces were separated from each other, as was typical of houses built in the era where privacy was a cultural priority. The project is a small mixed-use building located in the access of a new park office within a suburb of Melbourne, Richmond. Its position on the terrain allows views over the Yarra River and the skyline to the north-west.

Atkin’s Architecture Group recently won the first prize in an international design competition for this wonderful building. Located in a spectacular water filled quarry Song Jiang, China, the 400-bed hotel Resort is built in the unique natural features of the quarry. Room’s underwater areas of the public and invited add to the singularity, but the resort also boasts cafes, restaurants and sports facilities.

The lowest level runs with the aquatic theme by housing a luxurious swimming pool and sports center for extreme activities like rock climbing and bungee jumping which will be cantilevered over the quarry and accessed by Special lifts water. With a stunning visual presentation as shown here, it is not surprising that this project was the price of a first home. This is a good example of an ultra-modern facility co-existing in its natural environment.
