On 1931 or in the pre-war period, Rockefeller Center began its operation to be the largest complex of amusement and privately owned business in America. With total 12 acre sites, there are 10 units that were constructed. The last unit was completed in 1940 and used for the National Cash Register Company offices. The Rockefeller Center was built on a busy block in New York, which is between 5th - 6th Avenues and 48th - 51st Streets.

The building process and development showed the popularity of skyscraper design during the pre-war period. It is fact that Rockefeller Center gives big contribution to the urban life because it can give access to both private and public activities; they all together are brought in the same scheme. The first building that was completed is the theatre of RKO motion pictures. It was designed by main architects Harrison Corbett, Hood McMurray and Fouilhoux. It was opened for the first time in 1932. It is a huge building with 3.500 seats and a big stage.
Up to today, the name of Rockefeller is still famous. However, not all businesses can survive because some of them also faced failure, including Sunken Plaza. But it could survive by giving new excitement to visitors with skating rink.
