Dear friends, the Lord of Luren Sanctuary is about to be demolished. Ica religious icon, built brick by brick ONLY by civility Ica by faith that you have your pattern jury, no longer exist unless we do something to stop it.

One of the actions that take place to prevent this cultural attack is the Human Chain to be held physically outside the Sanctuary of the Lord of Luren in Ica, Saturday 7 am to 5 pm. But do not wait till Saturday, we start from today. It is our civic and moral obligation to spread what the Bishop of Ica, in collusion with the INC, intend to do with the collective historical memory of the parishioners beaten and Ica, and what they intend to do with our cultural identity, it is not only a blow to Ica, is a blow to all Peruvians.

I ask you partake of this unprecedented action in defense of a Religious historic building in our country, a monument that would be respected anywhere in the world. If we can prevent it, sit a great precedent for civil authorities and / or religious, do not conflict with what belongs to all Peruvians.

Boundless optimism, since it all turned to the fifth day of IJburg, such as multiplication ARCAM organized by the date of the referendum that the project is not blocked. Vera architect believes in her heart Yanovshtchinsky have someone waiting for those expensive plan chaos resulting population mix of fashionable tendencies and other planning and architectural hype? And project leader Igor Roovers really do not see that affordable housing by making them smaller just more middle-class families to Hoofddorp and Almere hunts?

The answer to these questions will be somewhere in the middle between yes and no lie: without a bit of bureaucratic bluff, what toadyism, a bit of cynicism, a tuft of cosmetics and a dash of opportunism would it IJburg course just boring. And of course the real problems are sometimes picky, and usually fairly banal: partly to discourage car use IJburg has only two real access, and now wants one from Rijkswaterstaat impose an impossible loop. The hall has been designed for major international sports competitions, in compliance with state-of-the-art world sports standards. The auditorium has been designed as a system with telescopic stands, which open and adapt to the kind of competition and the number of spectators; at major competitions 2100 spectators have seating places by opening all the stands. The architecture of public facilities, the shopping centre, the library and the local authority stands out in the topography of the terrain, connecting the square in front of the hall and in front of the school and tries to integrate into the overall existing context of western Zamet.

Gas prices have risen and fallen, but the emphasis on transit use and walkability remains on the increase. Cities are a focus again, as Americans rediscover the authenticity and close contact of traditional neighborhoods. A reaction against suburban homogeneity and corporate standardization are making older urban areas, with their variety and local character, more attractive for private investment. Many realms of economic and social decision-making seem to be undergoing a shift, impacting where and how people live and do business. All of it seems to bode well for cities like Buffalo.

American cities seem to have some exciting developments in store, yet wrenches dangle over the proverbial machine. Global economies change quickly, but big government and big business tend not to do so, raising some big questions that hang over 2009. In current economic conditions, will there be a greater aversion to nonconventional projects (i.e. mixed-use, adaptive reuse, walkable, urban) and a renewed love affair with conventional sprawl? Will infrastructure stimulus funding pave new highways, but forgo opportunities to rebuild public transit and rehabilitate urban spaces? Will America miss a unique chance to invest in cities and strengthen conditions for global competitiveness?

The Hydraulics is still, to a great degree, in a severe hangover from post-industrial trends in American life. Seventy-five years of emphasis on automotive convenience, suburban expansion, and degradation of public spaces and the built environment, have not been kind to the neighborhood. But a changing direction in Buffalo, ahead of the curve of many struggling deindustrializing cities, includes a shift in thinking about the economic value of the neighborhood, a trend validated by cultural shifts in America nationally, which, one can only hope, will also be validated by American policy in the coming year.

Who knows what the future brings, but it’s always fun to ponder. In the meantime, here’s to 2009! May it be filled with historical anecdotes!
