There are many buildings in this world that are famous on its architecture. With the great designs and construction of the exterior and the interior of the buildings, all of the building becomes really phenomenal and famous. Boston city hall is one of the famous buildings because of this building shape and design. It is not only famous because of its function that is as the center of the government or the hall of the city but also it is famous ion its building architecture that is interesting.

Knowles, Kallmann, and McKinnell as the architect of this buildings work so hard for this building. It uses the precast concrete for the system of the construction for this city hall building. The Brutalist Modern style is chosen as the building style for this city hall. The architects use the great dentil on the monumentally as the accent and shade device. It is so amazing.

The public part of this place is actually in the ground with the opened area that is linked to the interior and the plaza. It gives the great atmosphere for the public place. The great design that is well organized represents this building as the city hall building.

In addition, call attention to the screens high on the edge, to preserve the privacy of the courtyard from neighboring homes, not forgetting that bathroom with stonewall.

This family house is located in the Azores (Capel, S. Miguel Island) and, as the project report of its author:

“… The building is a re-interpretation of classic Greek and Roman house, with two courtyards, one for input and one central, to collecting rainwater, allowing light and ventilation to reach the open area of floor (living room and kitchen). “

He adds that the volume of the kitchen treated as the great chimneys of traditional island houses, like other things less important, and there are many. But we’re going to stay with the flavor that leaves outside the house, which is none other than a building that apparently has no windows, at least as we used to see them, but nevertheless does not lack the light in your interior.

We also found only two materials abroad: a gray stone veneer and a coating of wooden planks. Although we have only pictures of the interior, at least we have seen the impressive kitchen with this volume of sloping walls, topped by a skylight. Despite having made this house called, Domus Impluvium believes that their courts spend some unnoticed, and quite removed from the classical concept.

I visited the museum to Oteiza Alzuza Navarra. On a promontory surrounded by nature, it dominates the area of Pamplona which is 9 kms. This foundation was designed by the architect Francisco Javier Saenz de Oiza to present the personal collection of Jorge Oteiza (1908/2003) complete artist and also one of the greatest sculptors of the twentieth century.

I was impressed by the museum to more than one way: by the interest and the wealth of works on display (I will return in another post) by the interior spaces of the museum (ocher red and black, I will come back too), the quality of architecture and how Francisco Javier Saenz de Oiza designed the museum.

He wanted to create this building “a sense of simplicity and balance between content and container”. He kept the housing occupied by Oteiza, a traditional stone house, and totally integrated in its architecture.

Two strong colors dominate: the ocher stones, concrete and black soil, walls and metal structures.

After visiting the museum, includes the work of the architect, longtime friend of Oteiza, in perfect harmony with the work of the artist.

Here, the pressure balance between the interior and exterior makes the turning of walls and ceilings, creating a large volume with subtle divisions.

One can get to every house from exterior corridors, generated by a dent in the volume. You can see the “pressure” between the inside and outside each of the precincts, for example, the direct form of the roofs, jutting diagonals created by the outside stairs or distortion of space by folding walls.

Project Challenge
The starting point for the renovation was a modest Victorian house in very poor condition, with rooms with small windows and dark interior spaces were separated from each other, as was typical of houses built in the era where privacy was a cultural priority. In another gesture to the Victorian public decoration, arrangements of existing interior spaces reinforce the ancient ideal of work and family life should be separate.

Although the client requested to renovate the space do the work in the house, while maintaining a clear separation from his family life was also important to create a modern and bright space that seemed small in size and continues to be spacious and connected visually.

Response Project
Echo: noun, “a similar or identical response, as the sentiments expressed, a lingering trace or effect”

The fact that the house has had few changes since it was originally built, is both a virtue and a challenge that allows multiple design opportunities. The footprint of the house is small (approximately 65 m2). Then, it was not possible to create a sort of loft on the first floor that seems to simultaneously open and give the necessary distinction between workspace and be. The house was preview as a vertical loft, an open volume using four-story from the foundation to the roof of the new intervention. The main level and previous level of foundations is open from side to side through a staircase, which highlights the views of the foundations of the stonewalls of the original house. Therefore, the above main space of the Victorian house, once segregated into separate pieces is now becomes open and spacious. The small original windows are replaced by large windows on both the front and the sides of the room, visually extending into the garden space front and rear, and finally, possible to have spectacular views from the patio (all over the house) to the Rideau Canal.

The space requirements include some very private spaces: a study may contain several thousand books, an office and a bedroom en suite. To achieve this paradoxical response to commission a house loft spaces as private but as the old Victorian house, study, office and the vault of books are designed as distinctive volumes suspended within the large volume of 4 floors. Since these volumes “float” within the shell of the original house, they gain the necessary visual privacy from the living room on the bottom and the street outside (despite increasing the areas of windows). While these spaces are small, are bright, airy, and larger read by having visual access to both windows and to other interior spaces of the house.

The most private areas of the house (such as closets, bathrooms and stairways) are located along the south wall of the house and were protected by a screen three stories. At the top level, flying over the main room and the front facade patio, in addition to appearing distinctly as a floating volume and forming a roof above the entrance. In this sense, the attic space above the Victorian house is redesigned to provide light and views which never existed before in the original house, and due to its elevated position, maintaining privacy.
